It was capitalism, which has managed to raise a billion across the world from the extreme line of poverty, between the 1990 and 2010. But, then social economic systems get out-of-date like the course of feudalism over the time. Hence, undoubtedly the same impact will be seen on capitalism, making it obsolete.
The major acumen of the need of replacing the sophisticated system of capitalism is associated with the fact that almost all the working and middle class jobs will go outmoded within a span of the next 25 years. In developed countries the process has already started. The wages of the middle and working class has remained stagnant for years, even when the cost of living has risen.
Undoubtedly, the occurrence of deforestation, infrastructure projects, commercial agriculture and usage of fossil fuel are making sure to cause extinction rate 1,000 times more than all the events in the last 65 million years. It is bound to have an impact on the ecosystem of the world as well as the human population.
Another cause of the negative impact on the same is the overpopulation. Overcrowding, spreading of infectious disease and strain on water supplies is bound to have an impact on the ecosystem. In fact, as The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration have warned the US coastal cities will witness immense flooding daily by the year 2050.
As of present almost 1.1 billion people do not have proper access to water. But, this number will enhance to 2 billion by 2050. Again, scarcity of water in the way of irrigation of crops will threaten the food supply globally. It in turn will have a decreasing effect on food production as well, which will drop by 2 % by 2050.
Alteration in climate, unrestrained consumption and overpopulation have led Prof. Frank Fenner, Australian National University to come to the prediction that humanity will get extinct within a century.
Fenner used the disappearance of the inhabitance of Easter Island as an example. It was sudden population growth which swallowed the resources of the island, making the civilization that formed there unsustainable.
Some scientists estimate that at its height, Easter Island’s population may have been as much as 20,000 people. Around 1200 AD, the inhabitants apparently began cutting down the island’s subtropical trees and giant palms in large numbers to build canoes and to transport the giant stone statues.
However, the destruction of the palm forests that covered the island led to much of the fertile soil washing away, damaging the natural wildlife. That’s when people began to starve. In a last ditch effort at survival, they became cannibals.
Legend says that the collapse of the island’s ecology and civilization was so complete that by the time the Dutch arrived in the 1700s, Easter Island was a sandy grassland void of nearly all its native wildlife. Its human inhabitants were reduced to a starving population of 3,000 or less, scientists say.
Retired Prof. Stephen Boyden, who is also Fenner’s colleague, is, however optimistic. In accordance with him, the political capability can aid as an obstacle for the negative aspects of the ecosystem and the population.
In accordance with him, shared ownership can have a powerful impact on the humanity. By availing corporation or the equity in the hands of the stakeholders, it will be easier to limit the exploitation of the environment by the company. In order to decide on the same it will be recommended to continue the peaceful demonstrations and protests to keep the issue in the mind of the public. Recycling, clean energy initiatives and addressing the food waste problem must be taken into account with diligence.
