Metaphorical Significance And Healing Properties of Turquoise Crystal

"A turquoise given by a loving hand carries with it happiness and good fortune."

Arabic proverb

Turquoise has been treasured for centuries as a divine gift that fell from heaven, reflecting the colour of the sky in some traditions, and water in others. Its dazzling blue-green shade made an appearance in ancient Egypt around 6000 BCE where it was incorporated into protective amulets and royal bling for the likes of King Tutankhamun and Cleopatra. Native Americans, Tibetans, Persians, and other ancient cultures regarded turquoise as a gem uniting heaven and earth. This all-in-one stone of metaphorical significance is considered a master healer because it promotes an energetic flow of the highest vibration of love, the spiritual super food to heal the world.

Symbol of protection

From its earliest days as a precious gem, Turquoise has been fashioned into jewellery valued as much for its aesthetic qualities as for its promise toward off danger. The gemstone was traditionally set into turbans and military weapons for the safety and protection of the wearer and it was a firmly-held belief that it would change colour when they were in any kind of danger.

Where can Turquoise be found?

The word turquoise probably is derived from the French term meaning Turkish stone. It was first used by French and other European traders regarding a beautiful blue stone received from Turkish traders - it was actually Persian turquoise (from mines located in what is now known as Iran).

Today, high quality Turquoise is mined in many parts of the United States, such as Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and California. However, Iran takes the cake for the highest quality. Even so, many countries such as Brazil, Mexico and China to name a few have supported the ever-growing demand.

Healing Powers of Turquoise

The value of turquoise defined by both aesthetic value and healing qualities. What remains mysterious and puzzling to historians is that these qualities are recognized around the world wherever Turquoise stones are cherished. For thousands of years, Turquoise has spanned all cultures, prized as a symbol of wisdom, nobility and the power of immortality. Among the Ancient Egyptians, Persians and Chinese, Aztecs and Incas of South America, and Native North Americans, Turquoise was sacred in its adornment and for power, luck, and protection.
